Oak History

Oak once the primary building material used when durability and strength were needed. Today many of the United States of Americas, Oak barn have been torn down and the oak lumber salvaged, made into oak flooring ,oak paneling, and oak mantel beams and much more.  Oak one of the common reclaimed wood used in factories and warehouses built during the Industrial Revolution. Oak a slow-growing tree can live up to 1000 years. Barns serve as one of the most common sources for reclaimed wood in the United States. Barns were typically built using oak and either woods that were found on the property. They often contain a mixed blend of reclaimed oak, chestnut and other woods. Beams ( oak ) sizes were limited to what a man or horse could move. Oak was often hand hewn using a hewn axe. Early settlers also praised oak for its warmth and beauty in oak furniture. Oak mill buildings provide an abundant source of reclaimed oak. History Oak Threshing Barn
